We wiil be travelling to Yangon next February . We will need a good hotel at central and also I would like to know is it possible to arrange visa from Bangkok . This wiil be our first visit to Burma .
Thank you for all your helps.
Yangon Hotel
Yes...
You%26#39;ll need a couple of days, 3 photos and $20 US (or baht equivalent + a bit extra). If you do not mind spendign a bit of extra money, have a travel agent do the visa for you. Worth avoiding the MAJOR hassle and lines at the Myanmar embassy.
As far as hotel...how much do you want to spend? I%26#39;ll give you my recommendations...
Good luck!
Yangon Hotel
Hi nevca,
we%26#39;ve just returned from Yangon and it was also our first trip to Myanmar.
we stayed at Traders Hotel, booked with asia rooms on line including breakfast for about A$80.
The location is espesially good and very central with the market just across the road and all other street markets within walking distance.
The quality of accomodation is good and the rooms clean there is also a swimming pol , gym etc. (although oddly enough we found the water in the swimming pool unusally cool).
there is also a washing machine and dryer available for guests to do there washing @ US$2 for either one wash or dry.
There was also an ice machine on our floor.
The staff are excellent and very helpfull.
We usually paid 1500 kyat in taxis to most pagodas (sule is walking distance 150m) as well as the beautiful green Kandawgyi lake.
There are also some reasonable restaurants within 5 minutes walk of the hotel if you are looking for something in between street food and hotel restaurants. One is a good thai reataurant attached to a supermarket called APK, which closes at 9pm.
We organised our visas in Australia before leaving via registered post to myanmar embassy in Canberra, very quick and efficent.
I stayed at the Panorama Hotel last time. I%26#39;ve now tried 4 different hotels during various Yangon trips and I like this hotel the best. Only $25 per night with a very good free buffet breakfast. Staff were all very nice and helpful. Location is also good, just a few blocks from Traders Hotel (where I had an excellent $18 buffet dinner one night) and the market. Panorama is very close to the train station and walking distance to Sule Pagoda and the river. One hotel I would NOT recommend is the Asia Plaza. We left there after one night. Very odd place and no free safety boxes for guests!

The last poster mentioned City Star Hotel in Yangon. I have also stayed there and would not hesitate to recommend that hotel. They are easy to contact by e-mail and always reply promptly. Check out their website for more info. They are located only a block from Sule Pagoda. Seemingly a good location, but if you are on the west wing of the hotel, all the pagoda noise (loudspeakers) at night can be annoying. Otherwise it%26#39;s a good place and rooms are in the $20-25 range.
online boking is normally quite hight than agents rates in Myanmar!
for example --%26gt; traders online would pay 80 US$ per room /night
agent rates --%26gt; 60 US$

I haven%26#39;t stayed at Traders Hotel, but I have heard that it is owned by by a corporation that includes some members of Myanmar%26#39;s ruling junta. I have also heard that is affliated with the Shangri-La hotel chain. Whatever the case, it%26#39;s one of the city%26#39;s more expensive hotels. You can find much cheaper accommodation in Yangon that is still good quality.
