According to the state dept. It is illegal to bring anything from Myanmar into the U.S..Is this true or inforced?

It is true.
It likely would be enforced if customs officials determined that you were bringing back goods from Myanmar, however it has never been an issue for me, and I have visited Myanmar many, many times.
