Best way to book hotel?

around January 15 2007 I will be going in to Myanmar with a friend of mine. We are planning to see ';the main attractions';. And have aprox. 2 weeks time for that. We would like to spend our money wisely (focus on the local people). Can someone help us with information about how to book hotels for ex. Yangon and Mandalai? Should we do this by the internet (bookingsite or at the hotel?) or via a local travelagency in Myanmar?

We don%26#39;t have to stay in big, luxurious hotels, a family-run hotel with a room with AC, shower and toilet and friendly staff is sufficient.

Thanks for your replies!

In January veru big season in our country,We have 4 places for usual sites. That is the main attraction.Yangon,Mandalay,Bagan, and Shan state, around the Inle lake.If you choose free and get close locals that is the only one way you should meet freelance guide who will manage of your trip.Just only wise and think about and check his approach to you.Around Sule pagoda so many street guides ,avoid Indian guides they are very experience in tourism, just only listen of their info and sources. That I mean one who can manage all of trip including guest house. If you think about tour copany that will be safe for trip but too much cost. That my opinion ,

Hope you good trip to our unique land.

happy to newyear 2007.

We%26#39;ve been to Burma 3 times. First time picked up taxi at airport and headed north. 2nd and 3rd times booked itinerary including flights/hotels/guide through Columbus Travels/Yangon T. +95 1 229245 Fax: + 95 1 229246 email: Ms Ohnmar columbus03@baganmail.net.mm or columbus@mptmail.net.mm

2nd visit to Yangon (2004) we went to office when we arrived in Yangon and they arranged our itinerary very quickly (pay in USD cash). 3rd visit to Yangon (2006) we arranged it by email. Great guides and excellent arrangements.

Include Inle Lake if you can. Also our last trip we visited Kyaing Tong [south-east close to Laos border] and our guide took us trekking to the hill tribes over 2 days. Hotel in town: Princess Hotel. Kyaing Tong highlight of our visits to Burma.

Lovely people, beautiful country. Enjoy.
