It is the rainy season or the Monsoons in Burma from about the end of June till about the middle of October. So July - August falls right in the middle of it. By July/August, the rains are really heavy, like, when it falls, it is torrential; just like standing just in front of a waterfall.

Generally, the downpours happen once in the morning and once later in the afternoon. In between, it may be dry or there may be a few showers. By July-August, there is likely to be another major downpour around midday as well; and often frequent showers in between.

Must sees: The Shwedagon Pagoda; the Bo Gyoke Market, the Kandawgyi Gardens, walk along the Sule Pagoda Road to the Sule Pagoda, the Maha Bandoola Gardens and the City Hall are just across the road from the Sule Pagoda; the Reclining Buddha at the Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda

Watering Holes: The Zawgyi next to the Bo Gyoke Market; the Cafe Aroma across the Sule Pagoda Road from the Traders%26#39; Hotel, 50 Street Bar at the 50th Street

Outside Yangon: July-August is one of the best time to go to Bagan where ancient capital of Burma is with it%26#39;s hundreds of temples and pagodas. It doesn%26#39;t rain (may be an occassional shower briefly) there, but it will be green and contrasts beautifully with the rustic ancient temples; and the weather will be comfortable.

HI, I%26#39;ve been there in August, - no problem with rain when outside Yangoon. Nothing that will stop you from experiencing the country. Must sees depends on how long time, - but i wouldn%26#39;t have missed Bagan and Inle lake. T

I spent 5 days in Rangoon in early Aug. It rained heavily all day every day without fail. It was also very, very sticky and sultry and kind of hard work to do anything due to the humidity. I had to jump into a teahouse %26amp; drink tea for a couple of hours during a deluge. However, that was an experience I would probably have not met otherwise. Despite this, it felt quintessentially Burmese - hot, sticky %26amp; languid (Kipling-esque).
