Bagan

I am thinking of going to Bagan end april 2007. how does one get from Nyaung U airport or Mandalay airport to Bagan? how long does it take? how much should it cost?

Bagan

I would like to know when you come (April)? What do you get one at Nyaung U or Mandalay Airport? What do you chose for trip, caror Flight or Bus ?That I know I can answer for your question.

thank for think to come and visit to our country BURMA

Bagan

At Bagan you have ... Old Bagan... New Bagan and Nyaung U... all fairly close together.. the whole archaeological area is something like 40 square kilometres...

The airport is very close to the hotels... so transfer would be cheap... Probably around USD 5... You can hire a horse and buggy for the day for USD 10.. or a bicycle for USD 1 to 2...

Mandalay is different.. Here the airport is about 40 Km. from the city... The cost is USD 14.00.. takes around 1 hour.. All roads in Myanmar are slow to drive on... Often unsealed and pot holed.

To get between Mandalay and Bagan.. you can fly.. cost around USD 35... Most people take the boat... Takes all day.. Cost USD 25.00.. Feel free to ask about anything else.. only too happy to make recommendations on hotels etc.

I get the impression you are thinking Bagan and Mandalay are served by a common airport. They each have their own airports.

Bagan%26#39;s airport is the Nyaung U Airport. It is fairly close to Bagan itself. There should be taxi%26#39;s available outside. Alternatively, you can usually ask your hotel to collect you from the airport. I normally get a hotel and car package. The car for the whole day costs about 10 - 15 US Dollars. The person driving the car is not a tour guide, but I get a lot of help/advice from him. Usually I am able to go outside Bagan to Popa the extinct volcano (takes 3/4 of the day) Very good panorama of the surrounding area. While in Bagan, if you can spare time, ask your hotel to arrange a boat trip across to the other side of the Irrawaddy River. There you can normally ask the villagers for a car - usually a WW II US Jeep and go up to the Tant Kyi Taung Pagoda (you can see it across from Bagan). Bumpy a bit but exciting; when you get to the top the view is amazing!

Mandalay%26#39;s Airport is at Ta Dar U which is quite far out. I get collected having arranged for transport with my booking. Again, I should think there are taxis waiting; but I am not sure.
