is it necessary to declare your film/digital and video cameras on entry to Myanmar.I have heard that you are supposed to declare them but then when you do they are not interested.
What are the charges for cameras at tourist spots like the Shwedagon Paya, for example?
Do they charge extra for a video camera if you already have paid for a normal camera?
Declaring Cameras on entry
Theoretically , yes; but many didn%26#39;t. I write mine down on the declaration form and sometimes they check; but often, as you say they didn%26#39;t bother.
I think it is about Kyats 100 - 150; and yes they do charge extra for extra cameras/videocams in my experience! :-(
Declaring Cameras on entry
Answer to the question:
There is really no reason not to declare your cameras upon entry. You are right: they do not care, so why not be above board?
Camera fees: None to MOST places (including Shwedgaon) as long as you are not a professional photographer and your camera does not ';look'; professional. They see enough cameras so that you%26#39;re going to have to be toting quite a rig in there to have them insist that you%26#39;re a professional photog.
Please note that this does not include entrance fee, which is $5 US at Shwedagon and generally less (actually MUCH less) at most other places.
Places that have compulsory camera fee usually charge 50 - 100 Kyats, or $0.04 - $0.08.
Also, it is pretty easy to bring in a second camera. And if you get apprehended with camera #2, pay the 100 kyats and don%26#39;t let it get you down.
