Kyaing Tong & Lake Inle

We are making our second visit to Myanmar next month. This time including 3 days in Kyaing Tong. Itinerary: Yan-Law ';Khun'; people village, Palaung Village, Kat-Tauk village. Hike to see Akha people and rare ';Ann'; people. Interested to hear from anyone who has done a similar trip there.

Returning to Lake Inle which we enjoyed so much previous visit. Has anyone been to an orphanage? Anything different and interesting, would love to know about. We did the usual things last time. Interested in walking and meeting the local people.

Kyaing Tong %26amp; Lake Inle

hi. I';m new to this forum..have never been to Myanmar but hoping to go in the fall. does the weather vary a great deal? If you were going to spend 8 days total there, where would you choose to spend time? Trying to spend 3-4 weeks and see Myanmar, Viet Nam and Cambodia; the idea of cruises on the rivers sounds great as well ...your thoughts appreciated.

Hi

Myanmar: Internal hotel/flights were booked by a travel agent in Yangon - we gave them our preferences and they did the rest. Reliable and very satisfactory and not too expensive.

All other countries: Booked internal flights from NZ, but arranged our own hotel accommodation by email (chosen from Lonely Planet Guides and researching the internet - reading forum comments/tips etc).

Myanmar:

Weather: According to Lonely Planet Guide the best time to visit Myanmar is between Nov and Feb when it rains least and is not so hot. Mar to May is very hot up to 40C+. Monsoon starts mid-May/mid-June bringing rain through till Oct. We have visited Myanmar in October and found no problems then. However, last October we were there at the end of severe flooding (around Mandalay) but luckily it didn%26#39;t intefer with our schedule.

We have been to Myanmar 3 times - usually around 8 - 10 days. Yangon [went south to Kyaikhtiyo to Golden Rock - great trip], Bagan, Mandalay, Inle Lake and Kentung for hill tribe trekking (also known as Kyaing Tong close to Laos border). All definitely worth a visit. My favourites: Inle Lake and Kyaing Tong. Last Oct we visited the hill tribes in Kyaing Tong - that was the highlight of that trip.

See a posting on the forum under Swedenflyer - Hill tribe trekking -where I have replied to Swedenflyer - contains some tips and info.

Laos: Luang Prabang, simply delightful - stayed at a guesthouse overlooking the river. You can take a boat trip down the Mekong River either by booking a cruise or as we did, hire a small boat and do a day trip stopping off at villages etc on the way. We also did a day%26#39;s hill tribe trek.

Cambodia: We have been to Siem Reap (Angor Wat temples) - 2 days enough.

Vietnam: Last year we visited Hoi An (central Vietnam) after the Cambodia trip. Delightful, picturesque riverside town. We had 5 days there. Day trip to island for swimming and snorkling and other day trips.

Previously visited Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) - interesting experience.

Suggest you have a look at a copy of Lonely Planet Guide. We have copies for Myanmar, Vietnam %26amp; Laos. Contains all the info you could ever wish for.

Please ask any questions.

Good luck

Kay/NZ
