Searching a reliable driver with van

Hello,

we will be ravelling to Myanmar on July. We are 2 familes of 4 so in total 4 adults and 4 children. We have planned most of our travelling by now.

First of all we will need a driver + van who can get us from Bagan to Inle Lake. After 2 days there we may want to drive in 2 days form Inle Lake to Yangon.

Question 1:

Does anyone know a reliable (and independent) driver who has (access to) a relatively new 10 seater van ?

Question 2:

Can anyone give us a nice tip on a cattrip back to Yangon where should we stop / where should we stay overnight / how long would the ride be under July road conditions ?

Question 3:

what would on average be the price per day for a driver + van ?

Thanks, Rob van der Veer (Netherlands)

About number(1)-That you can get Van for 10 seater and I can recomand you for good and reliable driver.

About number(2)- From Inle lake to yangon, every time we stop at Taung Ngu that just have old alace and the wall and as usual in others places ,pagodas.that we stop for rest at night. and road condition, that is rainseason and road is some part is good cause they get contract with pravite and some part is like a moon face jump and bump, but that you will remember what the Burma roads is. :), From Inle lake to taung Ngu that will drive lesser then (10) Hr,and from there to Yangon (9) Hr,driving time.

About number (3)-that is depend on the days, if you use long the price will down, just use for short high pay .

In right now ,van for 4 person that is 45 $ per day,

About 10 seater that will be 50 to 55 $ per day.that is including driver fees and food.you do not pay for that.

So now I would like to introduce myself.

Hello Rob,

Can’t help you with local info on drivers or cost. (we were just 2 people and used boat, bus, airline etc. for our trip)... With a group such as yours, it probably makes sense to try and arrange for a mini bus.

What you need to prepare yourself for, is that

1; there are almost no new or newish cars on the roads. I remember seeing one only during our almost 3 week trip. An almost new Honda sedan picking up an American couple from the hotel we staid in, in Yangon.

2; the simple fact is that the roads outside the build up areas are all in a pretty bad state and any “new” car, becomes very old very quickly.

3; given the time of year you are there... wet season... you are going to be in for a surprise..

Bagan to Inle took us from around 5 am.. until 5 Pm.... (12 Hours)....

We did not go by road between Inle and Yangon.. but met travellers.. both who had done the trip in sedans (with guide) and also people who used the tourist busses... and it would seem that around 20 hours on the road.. not counting sight-seeing and meal stops, is pretty average.. (this was in dry season.

Don’t wish to sound like a ‘spoilsport”.. but do prepare yourself for both the fantastic experience the country is.. and also for the distances... and the time it takes to cover those distances.
