New Capital

Just read in an Australian Newspaper that Myanmar has just officially changed its Capital City. I assume that this will not affect tourism to any great extent.

Has anybody any further information.

Not sure what kind of change you are asking about.

Permits and visa extensions now have to be processed in this new capitol.... May make things a wee bit trickier.... but as I do hope you are aware... politics and travelling will not and should not mix... most certainly not in Myanmar.

New Capital

I started to hear about this last year from some relatives...that they started the move and construction in the new capital - the city was then called Pyinmana and now renamed to Naypyidaw by the gov. As far as tourism goes - I have only heard that it can be pain if you are planning to drive through the new capital...officials will stop your vehicle and thoroughly search it. People who have returned from Yangon recently have told my family that there wasn%26#39;t much difference in Yangon, except that food seemed to be a little more expensive since many people/jobs are moving out of the city. I am going to visit in May - I plan to visit Yangon and Mandalay - but will stay clear of the new capital.

You don%26#39;t have any choice. Foreigners are NOT allowed in Pyinmana.
