first time to myanmar going feb 4 /07

when we did vietnam and cambodia we took lots of sweets and choccies for the children [ saying that the adults loved them too]

any previous travellers got any idea what to take??

also have seen vastly different prices for hotels offered on the net

especially on ngapali beach

would it be better to wait while we got to yangon and source accommodation and flights to ngapali then??

any other advice welcome

ABOUT NGAPALI BEACH

That you need Hotel reserve cause that time a bit of hot and warm so many travellers and tourists are spent there.

Ngapeli beach hotel is the best rate is round about 90$ fpr a night.

Take pens, just plain biros, the kids need them for school, black or blue.

Sweets, shampoo sachets, nail polish and lipsticks. All much appreciated.

The Savoy in Yangon is good, stayed there 7 times. Not too pricey and very welcoming. In Ngapali try The Bayview. Good medium price.

We%26#39;ve been twice to Myanmar. My husband takes sweets too. Easy to pack and a great hit with children. Depends where you are going. We went to Kyiang Tong hill tribe trekking - sweets again on the menu, but our guide took us to the markets beforehand and we stocked up on hairclips for the girls and some medicines (the guide selected because he knew what was needed). We collected the shampoos and soap that you get in yr hotel room which were also popular. You won%26#39;t go wrong with sweets though. Enjoy your trip. Beautiful country and lovely people.

Not huge on sweets, although I used to bring them. They have so many dental problems here,and there are plenty of other things that will make kids happy and will last longer.

For young children: Colored pens are nice. If you want to give them a really cool gift, get one of those mini Polaroids that takes photos that turn into little stickers (about 30 photos for US $7.50) and have someone take a photo of yourself with them. They LOVE that. And they can stick the photo in a notebook.

For older kids and adults: Shampoo, conditioner, soap, lipstick, facial wash, and yes, as a precious poster said, pens.

In VERY rural areas, aspirin, neosporin, band aids, antiseptic,and always soap, shampoo, etc.

Ngapali in February is not going to be too cheap. I personally prefer Ngwe Saung, but if you want a more lively environment, Ngapali is also pretty darn nice.

we brought postcards of the city that we live in here in the States. people seemed to really enjoy receiving that.

Excellent trip from tombonyc. And I also am in the ';no sweets'; camp. For pens, notebooks, and that sort of stuff, you can buy plenty at stationery shops in Yangon, Mandalay, or other towns. When I was in Bangkok, just before going to Myanamar, I bought a bunch of ';girlie'; stuff from street vendors: hair clips, colored ribbons, bracelets, etc. The kids - even some of the boys - loved them. Small t-shirts are also a hit.

How was your trip in Feb 07?

We are planning a trip for Feb 08 so would love to know how the weather was and any tips?

Where did you stay in Ngapali, we are considering the Bayview or the Sandoway are you familiar with either?

Also planning Cambodia next year so any thoughts on that would be great too.

We have 2 kids aged 4 %26amp; 8 who wil be with us
