Hi everyone,
I%26#39;ll be travelling to Yangon in November as I heard that this is a cool season. I%26#39;ll like to visit Lake Inle and was wondering what is the best way to get there for Yangon?
I%26#39;d read that domestic flights are a good option. Is there a particular airline that is operating this service? How much does it cost for a return journey and how frequent are the flights?
Thank you so much.

Cool season?.. hmmm not really.. the beginning of it.. as you get towards Christmas it does begin to get cooler.. January and February being the coolest (and dryest)
Best way to travel anywhere in Myanmar is by air. Roads are in poor condition genrally and trains are also slow.
Yangon to Heho (the airport close to Inle Lake) is serviced at least twice a day by Mandalay Air, Bagan Air and Yangon Air.. all much the same... Last year the morning flight s went via Mandalay or Bagan and the afternoon flights were non-stop between Yangon and Heho.
They all charge the same fare.. Last year we paid USD 73.00 for a one way ticket.. You can buy it from your hotel/guest house or from just about any travel agent once there.

Is there any particular attraction around Lake Inle which would be interesting to visit?
The hotel/guesthouse staff and the boat men will know what markets are open on the day you go there. (differnt day has differnet market and this will determine the route they take you).. When you negotiate with the boat men.. don%26#39;t try to negotiate too low a price.. if you do they will just adapt the day/tour to what you pay and you will be the one loosing out. Some people get a USD 13.00 tour... But miss out on the best places.. Around USD 18.00 to USD 20.00 will give the boat man enough money for fuel to take you to the most interesting places.... Do read up on what the options are beforehand.
We spent three days on the lake with a guide from the Hupin hotel ( we also stayed at Inle Resort.) She took us to lots of different places, villages including one a longway up river, sites, temples, had other suggestions and spoke excellent english and had a delightful sense of humor. I found just people, garden ( hectares of tomatoes growing on floating isands)and boat watching fascinating.
We spoke to others who had negotiated their own boat, they probably missed a lot by not having a guide and its not really that expensive to do it properly.
Do Fly. We used Air Mandalay. There is still quite a drive from Heho airport to the lake.
Hope you have a great time, we loved Inle lake - very relaxing place.

hinau suggest that one reason people miss out in seeing the best of Inle Lake is that they don%26#39;t have a good guide.
Let me suggest that the main reason some people have a lesser experience is that they try to negotiate a cheap boat tour.... If you pay the boat man what he asks for, and it is very cheap anyway, and ask him not to be taken to tourist traps.. you will have a great day out.... including the side trip up to Indein.
