We are in the midst of choosing which hotel to stay in Yangon.
After working on our budget range of Usd 30 to 50 per nite...we narrow down to - Central hotel ,Summit parkview ,grand plaza parkroyal and thamada hotel.
But we need to make a choice and need help to decide the right hotel to stay in term of cleaniness ,newer hotel and etc.
Which hotel to choose ?
Can%26#39;t give you advice on those hotels.. sorry.. did walk past the Central.... My guess is that they are old between 10 and 20 years old.... Guess you have to read as many reports as you can?
This snippet from a very recent trip report on Lonely Plantet Thorn Tree may interest you:
Found an absolute gem of a hotel which a friend had stayed in .. Chinese, only 2 years old, on 5th and 6th floors, pristine clean ($14 for a huge room with 2 windows, TV, settee, bathroom %26amp; mini fridge) and just 2 minutes from Sule Paya, Traders etc. (Chan Myae guest house, 256/275 Maha Bandola Garden street .. which is next big street east of Sule Paya Road and in C1 on your maps.) Great Bamar breakfast too. Also have rooms with balconies.
Which hotel to choose ?

After September, this is high season for tourism in Burma,
This is I hope small help what you need to know,
Parkview......38$ for superior room,
Nikko also the same,
Central,Yuzana,Thamada.....is 30$ for the same romme.
some guests house,7 to 18 $ with A/C,
Thks for the info .We are hoping the situation is improving with the demostration and the 30% price hike in domestic flight...is gonna hurt tourisrm .
re; fuel price hike.... never mind the tourists... spare a thought for the ordinary person who has to buy the bus and train tickets to get to work to make a living.
have stayed at central hotel last feb
worked out at about 50 us dollars
nice and ccentral as you would expect and quite acceptable
after returning from ngpali beach we got talking to a taxi driver who also had a travel /tour company
very impressed by him and spoke exellent english
he took us to parkview summit and arranged for us to stay a couple of nights
i do beleive it was a similar price to the central but a lot nicer and had a swimming pool!
it seems that people like him can arrange far better deals than you or me just walking in off the street as we normally do , and he wouldnt even take a tip which amazed me
i saw traders hotel on internet at around 75/80 us dollars
thinking i could get a better deal i was quoted 145 us dollars and they would not budge even though i had a print out!!!
if your intrested i will look for his business card as i feel that he is a100% genuine guy
we are going back in feb hopefully trying to see about staying for a long time
you will love it if you want my e mail let me know
regard and good health

Hi,
From your list, I would choose the Grand Plaza ParkRoyal. It%26#39;s central and you can walk to the Bo Gyoke Market, Sule Pagoda, the Maha Bandoola Park etc. Not far from the Shwe Dagon Pagoda, but preferably, take a taxi. It is close to the Thamada which must be at least 30 years old and does look unkempt! The Grand Plaza is about 5 years (+/-) old; much more comfortable and nice. The Summit Park is close to the Shwe Dagon Pagoda but for anything else, you%26#39;ll have to get a taxi. The Central Hotel is also about 30 - 35 years old; but very central indeed. It is just around the corner form the Traders, and you can walk to the Market, the Sule Pagoda and the Maha Bandoola Park. It is more central than the Grand Plaza by about half a mile.
