Temple rules

Just been browsing throuhg the website www.templesofdynasty.com, and read that when entering temples in Myanmar that shoes/socks/andstockings must be removed. I can understand the shoes, and as a male i can accept the socks, but my partner always wears slacks with tights [ pantyhose ] underneath, which would make the stockings removal a bit awkward. Does anybody have any experience of this. Is it true, and if so is it strictly enforced.

It also recommended not to take mobile [cell ] phones as they are likely to be confiscated. I would have no intention of using it in Myanmar, but it will be needed on my return to Melbourne airport to secure my pick up by a friend [ have you ever tried quueing for an airport public phone]. Is this also true.

It also states that all foreign currency in excess of 2000 usd/ travellers cheques/cameras/ jewelry/ and any other electronic apparatus must be declared on a customs declaration [ which i assume is provided by the airline [ in my case Thai ] is this also true.

I have also been browsing the post regarding Myanmar tour companies. I will not have trouble finding one, but can anybody tell me if these companies require money up front, or credit card details, or will it be possible to pay on arrival.

Bit long winded i know, but any info will be greatly appreciated.

Thank Yiu.

About our usual and typical food are not spicy but oily

: )..., that I mean You will be get great tease of our food,

Hi Gander,

Regarding the socks I can say that removal is a must at all pagodas that I have been to! Chinese temples can be an exception.

The Burmese food can actually be very oily and also spicy, but you could try a Chinese restaurant and eat fried rice or noodles or chicken sweet %26amp; sour (although not really local...). You will find Chinese restaurants everywhere

Thanks Guys

Hi, we visited Myanmar in March this year, no one asked about mobiles - didn%26#39;t seem bothered in the least when bags were screened at airports. No checks on money either. Tour companies ask for small deposit by money transfer or credit card and prefer the rest as cash - they meet you at the airport. Traders and other larger hotels take cards but all charge extortionate fees to do so.
